Counselling, Medicines, Consultation, & Harm Reduction
The only revolution that can work is the inner transformation of every human being.
~ Stanislav Grof
Counselling is an opportunity to explore the patterns of thinking and behaving that may be keeping you stuck so that you can create more space and consider new options for coping and thriving. I work from a radical, harm reduction, trauma-informed, and somatic orientation to help clients connect with their inner healing intelligence as they work towards their definition of recovery.
As a Nurse Practitioner, I can order lab tests, diagnose mental health conditions, and incorporate prescription medications into counselling as needed, including tapers off antidepressants and certain other medications for folks who want to try other approaches. I aim to assist clients to make informed choices about what medicines they takes, since all medicines have the potential to help or harm, depending on the circumstances. My approach is guided by the principles of harm reduction, trauma informed care, and hyperbolic tapering. Although I am well versed in the DSM, I hold those labels extremely lightly, and prefer to take a pragmatic, non-pathologizing approach to working with symptoms and variations of mental distress.
I am excited to offer Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAT) as an independent NP and RCC at the Conscious Mind Clinic in Yaletown. I offer individualized, evidence-based Intramuscular (IM) KAP to medically low risk clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, or PTSD that has not fully responded to the usual approaches. Ketamine is fully legal to prescribe, with no requirement for a Health Canada exemption. Additionally, it can also be a good option for folks who are taking other medications, since it can be safely combined with most antidepressants
Hi. My name is Keren and I'm a dual qualified Family Nurse Practitioner and Registered Clinical Counsellor with two decades of experience in mental health, substance use, and harm reduction. I blend solid education in mainstream psychiatry and psychopharmacology with specialized training in psychedelic and somatic therapy, and extensive personal experience navigating non-ordinary states of consciousness. My core values include trauma-informed practice and a non-pathologizing approach to understanding mental health and distress. I aim to support clients to move towards greater psychospiritual integration through counselling, working with medicines, and Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy.
